Since earning my B.S. in English Education and Bible at Northwestern College (now the University of Northwestern), I have had a variety of roles in the fields of education and literature. Some of these include boarding school houseparent, classroom teacher, online teacher, and corporate tutor. I have also been involved with the homeschool community since 2005 as both a parent-educator and a writing and literature teacher at various co-ops. Along with my degree, I hold a certificate in children's fiction writing from the Institute of Children's Literature.
In addition to operating Once Upon a Pen and The Denim Beret Writing Program, I also write on a freelance basis. I have written articles for The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, two courses for SchoolhouseTeachers.com, instructional materials for two educational companies, and creative stories, poems, and essays for a variety of small magazines and anthologies. In 2021 my first two books were released, both by Ignatius Press. See my "Books" page for details! Currently, I live with my family near Nashville, Tennessee. When I find time to relax, I usually put my nose in a book or enjoy television shows and movies. I also enjoy music, theater, Irish ceili dancing, the Renaissance Festival, traveling, and working out. Okay, maybe not working out--but it sounds good! And I do it...on occasion... |
